A groundbreaking moment unfolded in North
Sikkim’s wilderness as the Tibetan brown bear, a rare species never before
documented in Bharat, made its first appearance. The discovery was made
possible through the collaborative efforts of the Sikkim Forest Department and
WWF-India, utilizing camera traps to record this extraordinary moment in the
high altitudes of the region.
Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer
Parveen Kaswan, known for sharing captivating wildlife insights, took to his
social media to showcase two images of this rare bear. Captioned with
excitement, Kaswan wrote, “You are seeing the first-ever picture of a rare
Tibetan Brown Bear from Bharat. With this, one more sub-species is added to the
Indian biodiversity. This rare animal is documented in higher reaches of Sikkim
with the joint effort of Sikkim FD and WWF. There’s so much in Bharat that is yet
to be explored.”
