Sikkim Roads and Bridges Minister
Samdup Lepcha officially opened a 400-foot-long bailey bridge in Sangklang,
ensuring year-round communication between North Sikkim and the Dzongu region.
Lachen-Mangan assembly seat MLA Lepcha, during
the inauguration ceremony, expressed gratitude to the Border Roads Organisation
or BRO, the Indian Army, and other agencies for their swift completion of the
bridge in less than three months. The project successfully reinstates crucial
road connectivity in North Sikkim, previously disrupted by flash floods in the
Teesta River last October.
The BRO has been actively engaged in
constructing multiple bailey suspension bridges as part of its efforts to
restore and reconstruct the road infrastructure in the State.
These efforts have proven instrumental
in re establishing the logistics supply chain for both the armed forces and
local residents in severely hit areas such as Chungthang, Lachung, Lachen,
Sangklang, and Zeema regions of North Sikkim, all of which bore the brunt of
the flash floods on October 4.
