Sikh For Justice or SFJ founder and designated
terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, in a recent threat, announced plans to
assassinate Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Director General of Police
or DGP Gaurav Yadav on Republic Day. He urged gangsters to unite and launch an
attack on the Aam Aadmi Party Chief Minister on January 26.
Pannun had issued similar warnings
against Indian establishments and authorities through video clips in recent months
where he threatened to attack the Indian Parliament by December 13 and to put
in danger lives of individuals planning to travel via Air India.
In this regard, the National
Investigation Agency or NIA has registered a case against Pannun.
The SFJ, campaigning for an independent
Sikh homeland called Khalistan, was declared an “unlawful association” by the
government in 2019 due to its involvement in “anti-national and subversive”
activities.
Additionally, Pannun was listed as an “individual
terrorist” by the Centre in 2020, citing his appeals to Punjab-based gangsters
and youth to fight for Khalistan.
Last November, US authorities indicted
an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, for his alleged involvement in a murder plot
targeting Pannun on American soil.
Nikhil Gupta was accused of agreeing to
pay $100,000 to an assassin with an advance payment of $15,000 made in June of
the same year. He was subsequently arrested in the Czech Republic at the
request of US authorities.
