Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma
hailed the addition of 42,85,745 new beneficiaries under the National Food
Security Act or NFSA as a milestone for the incumbent government in achieving
food security for all residents.
Launching the distribution ceremony of
ration cards at Guwahati’s Maligaon, he said similar events have commenced across
the State and today’s addition of 42,85,745 beneficiaries will benefit another
10,73,489 families.
Under this scheme, every member will be
distributed 5 kg of rice free of cost every month during the “anna sewa saptah”
and for the current month this will be available till January 31.
The CM commended the Central Government led
by PM Narendra Modi for giving special attention to the people of the
disadvantaged sections through launching of schemes like Antyodaya Anna Yojana.
Dr Himanta apprised journalists of new
benefits for ration card holders. Now, they are eligible for government schemes
like Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Ayushman Asom.
Additionally, the Assam Government has raised income limits to Rs 4 lakh from Rs
2 lakh for them.
In near future, ration card holders will
be able to avail numerous initiatives such as providing life insurance and
accidental insurance coverage schemes.
