A minor, 11-year-old Ravi from Valayapattu, and a 35-year-old man were killed, while 70 others sustained injuries during Manjuvirattu, a bull-chasing sport, in Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga district on January 17.
The event took place in the presence of District Collector Asha Ajit, Constituency MP Karti P Chidambaram, and DMK Minister Periyakaruppan, along with the participation of 271 bulls and 81 bull tamers.
3 INJURED IN ALANGANALLUR JALLIKATTU
Close to three individuals sustained injury during the Alanganallur Jallikattu event in Madurai district. The injured parties were a tamer, a policeman, and a bull owner. The total registration noted 1,200 bulls and 800 bull tamers for the Alanganallur leg of the Jallikattu event.
The event winners, both the bull tamer and the bull, are expected to receive a Nissan Magnite car, while each participating bull will be presented with a gold coin.
To ensure safety, the venue is equipped with a medical team having close to 90 staff members, a veterinary team having 70 staff members, and Red Cross volunteers, along with ambulances. Furthermore, a gathering of 1,500 police personnel were deployed to control the crowd gathered at the Jallikattu arena in Alanganallur.
JALLIKATTU ARENA INAUGURATION
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is expected to inaugurate a Jallikattu arena at Keelakarai in Madurai district on January 24.
“It is the finest facility that has been constructed at a cost of Rs 44 crore. Close to 5,000 people will be able to watch Jallikattu,” Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said in a conversation with India Today TV.
