Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra commences in Assam on January 18. In its initial minutes, the Yatra stands witness to the former Assam Youth Congress President Angkita Dutta’s protest that demands justice from the Congress leader over her claim of sexual assault by another party person.
Dutta, once the head of Assam’s Youth Congress, was subjected to an expulsion from the party last year.
In the reports of ANI, Angkita Dutta can be seen calling out to Rahul Gandhi in distress, seeking justice.
“I have spent the last 10 months in exile. When I sought justice, I was suspended from the party. And in the last 10 months, I have not joined any party. Though not in Congress, I still worked to strengthen the Congress party. Now people are coming at me. I will submit a memorandum and we want justice. When Rahul Gandhi reached Amguri inAssam, I believed that I would also get Nyay. I am hopeful that he will give me Nyay,” she said.

“I came out to seek Nyay. When he started this Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, I saw a ray of hope that I would get Nyay,” she added.
Who is Angkita Dutta?
Angkita Dutta is the former head of the Assam Youth Congress. On April 22, 2023, the Congress party issued the expulsion of the then Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President, Angkita Dutta, from the primary membership of the Congress party for six years citing ‘anti-party activities’ as reason.
The decision surfaced after she lodged a police complaint against IYC national president Srinivas BV, accusing him of harassment. The party’s legal cell had sent a notice to Angkita Dutta as she made the harassment allegations public. The notice, which was sent on behalf of Youth Congress President Srinivas BV, labelled Angkita Dutta’s complaint of harassment as “false and frivolous”.
