Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during
his visit to Shillong, has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing key issues
in Meghalaya, including the inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the
Constitution’s Eighth Schedule, the implementation of the inner-line permit or ILP,
and the opening of international trade routes to Bangladesh.
Shah engaged in discussions with a BJP
team led by State president Rikman Momin, which included Cabinet Minister AL
Hek and party spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang. The Home Minister patiently
listened to their concerns and pledged to earnestly examine the matters,
according to BJP leaders.
Additionally, Shah extended an invitation
to a delegation of church leaders from the State to join a meeting in Delhi,
along with Momin and Hek, to discuss issues related to the Foreign Contribution
Regulation Act and the allotment of land in the National Capital Region to the
KJP Synod.
In the upcoming plenary session of the
North Eastern Council or NEC, chaired by Shah at the State Convention Centre on
Friday, key leaders including Chief Ministers Conrad K Sangma, Himanta Biswa
Sarma, Lalduhawma and Prem Sing Tamang will be in attendance.
Discussions will include a presentation
on the action plan for 2023-24 and progress on the NEC Vision 2047 document.
The session will feature briefings on ministry activities, investment policies,
industry 4.0 for the Northeast, logistics strengthening, and inter-regional
trade.
The plenary session will conclude with
addresses from Union DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy, who is also the
vice-chairman of the NEC, and Home Minister Amit Shah, who serves as the
chairman of the NEC. The discussions underscore the government’s commitment to
addressing regional concerns and fostering development in the Northeast.
