Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a
video interaction with beneficiaries of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, lauded
Silme Marak from Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district as the ‘Modi of her village.’
Marak’s impactful efforts in forming over 50 self-help groups caught the PM’s
attention.
Silme Marak, a beneficiary of various
government schemes, transitioned from a small shop owner to leading self-help
groups. Her dedication to organizing local women has empowered the community,
and she recently purchased a scooty for her expanding work. Marak’s group is
actively involved in food processing and bakery projects, contributing to local
development.
Recognizing her hands-on experience with
government schemes and her proficiency in Hindi, PM Modi praised Marak’s social
service orientation. He commended her as the ‘Modi of her village,’ emphasizing
that individuals like her make the implementation of government schemes more
accessible.
Extending the Viksit Bharat Sankalp
Yatra beyond January 26, PM Modi guaranteed continued development for all.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, he mentioned lifting 25 crore
people out of poverty, providing concrete houses to 4 crore poor families
through PM Awas Yojna, and empowering women. The campaign, turning into a
people’s movement, witnessed 15 crore people joining.
Apart from this, PM Modi acknowledged
the government’s concern for the transgender community, citing the enactment of
a law in 2019 to protect their rights. The interaction showcased the commitment
to inclusive development and the recognition of grassroots efforts like Silme
Marak’s in building a stronger and more empowered Bharat.
