Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared open Khelo India Youth Games in Chennai on January 19 and informed in great lengths how the government is striving to host the 2029 Youth Olympics and the 2036 Olympic Games in the country.
As he welcomed the participants, the PM remarked that they were together highlighting the true spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and expressed that for Bharatiya sports, “the Youth Games is a great way to mark the start of new year 2024”.
PM Modi lit the traditional torch to mark the beginning of the games. Elaborating, he said that the estimates reveal the size of the Bharatiya sports industry in the coming years to touch nearly ₹ 1 lakh crore.
Tamil Nadu’s hospitality is bound to “win your hearts”, he said, adding that the Khelo India Games would certainly provide sportspersons with an opportunity to both showcase their skills and help the athletes foster new friendships that last a lifetime.
While on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi also launched ‘DD Tamil,’ the revamped version of the regional language Doordarshan channel DD Podhigai.
