Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman S Somanath on January 17 hailed artificial intelligence, saying it is set to rule many things in the future.
At an event organised by Pragjyotishpur University, Somanath said, as quoted by news agency ANI, “…We are conversing about artificial intelligence today. Every phone that you use is actually learning you bit by bit. Every key that you are using is actually giving a signature of you into the system. They are aware of who you are, what are your tastes…The computer knows. Everything. It will continue to grow in the coming days, AI will start ruling many things here.”
Previously on January 11, Somnath, while outlining Bharat’s ambitious vision for its space programme, remarked that Bharat will build a space station by 2035 and a Bharatiya presence will be noted on the moon by 2040.
Discussing the recent successes of ISRO at the International Space Conference 2024 in Gandhinagar, along with the guidance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Somanath said the prime minister has been an enthusiastic advocate for the space endeavours of Bharat. He informed that PM Modi has also encouraged increased and continuous human presence in space.
“The Gaganyaan programme must continue over a long period leading up to a human landing on the moon along with the landing of a Bharatiya citizen on the moon by 2040. It looks like it is far away, but it’s not far away. It’s so close. We must also actively work to build a space station by 2035, a space station, accessible enough for Bharatiya citizens to go there and do research…,” he added.
The speech came on the heels of a series of successful missions and announcements by ISRO, such as the launch of the Aditya-L1 spacecraft to study the Sun from the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point (L1) and the X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) to analyse cosmic X-rays.
