Meghalaya is poised to embrace its
official State anthem, marking a historic milestone after 52 years of
existence. The announcement came following the approval granted by the State Cabinet
during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
CM Sangma took to the social media
platform X to express his immense happiness about this development. It will be released during the Meghalaya Day Celebrations in Tura on Saturday.
The CM extended his gratitude to the State
Arts and Culture department, as well as other individuals involved in the
creation of the anthem. He thanked them for their efforts in crafting the
lyrics and composing the tune, acknowledging their crucial role in bringing
this significant cultural and musical addition to the State.
The Cabinet took another noteworthy
legislative action by repealing the Meghalaya Civil Task Force Act of 1974, which
have been in effect for almost 50 years. The decision to annul the act was
likely taken in view of its irrelevance in the context of modern governance and
societal requirements.
Accordingly, the Meghalaya Government
will absorb and permanently retain three sanctioned posts to the office of the
Chief Inspector of Boilers and Factories.
Additionally, the Cabinet consented for the
Contingency Fund of Meghalaya (Amendment) Ordinance 2024. It is a provisional step
to raise Meghalaya’s contingency fund from ₹500 crore to ₹1,000 crore.
