Jaishankar took a firm stance on the Gaza conflict during the 19th Non-Aligned
Movement or NAM Summit in Kampala, stressing the urgency of a sustainable
solution to the humanitarian crisis.
Jaishankar declared that “terrorism and
hostage-taking are unacceptable,” urging all States involved adhering to
international humanitarian law.
Emphasizing the interconnectedness of
global issues, he highlighted the repercussions of conflicts on a global scale,
citing the example of Ukraine and its impact on fuel, food, and fertilizer
supplies.
Asserting upon importance of peace and
stability in global growth and progress, he mentioned, “Growth and progress are based on peace and stability.”
Calling for collective efforts towards
achieving a resolution and promoting peace, the minister underscored the
importance of recognizing the impact of conflicts on a broader scale. He
encouraged boldness in seeking due recognition and pressing demands.
“The NAM has entered its seventh decade.
In that period, the world has transformed and so too have our capabilities and
confidence. We must be bolder in seeking our due and pressing our demands,”
Jaishankar asserted, advocating for collaboration and reinforcement among NAM
member states.
In conclusion, he expressed confidence
in the enduring strength and growth of the NAM, conveying a powerful message
that “the voice of the NAM is here to be heard. The voice of the NAM is here to
stay and to grow. Let us send that message today.” Jaishankar, leading the
Indian delegation, participated in the two-day NAM Summit, which commenced in
Kampala on January 19.
