Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during
the book launch of Assam’s Braveheart – Lachit Borphukan, emphasized Assam’s
integration with Bharat was secured due to the bravery of historical figures
like Ahom Commander Lachit Borphukan.
Shah asserted that Assam would have
become part of Bangladesh instead of Bharat if it weren’t for the resilience of
leaders like Lachit Borphukan, who successfully thwarted Mughal invasions.
Launching the book written by Arup Kumar
Dutta, translated into 23 scheduled languages, Shah praised the efforts of the
Assam Government for highlighting stories of valour and victory that were often
overlooked by historians.
He acknowledged that these tales inspire
the younger generation and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of Bharat’s
history.
Shah mentioned the government’s
initiative, Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which aims to raise awareness about the
freedom struggle and highlight the unsung heroes from various regions who played
crucial roles in Bharat’s independence.
He urged the youth to elevate the
collective confidence of the nation, emphasizing the importance of becoming
fully developed and self-reliant.
While acknowledging the contribution of
Lachit Borphukan, Shah expressed reservations about the book’s title, stating
that Lachit was not just a braveheart of Assam but of the entire country.
He highlighted Lachit’s leadership
skills, mastery in guerrilla and river warfare, and his inclusive approach in
forming a diverse army.
Shah also commented on the political
landscape, alleging that Congress had created divisions in the region. He
praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development and peace policies in the
Northeast, aiming to instil confidence in the people for the region’s overall
progress.
In his appeal to the public, Shah
emphasized rising above linguistic and religious differences for the greater
good of Assam and the Northeast. He urged the respect for diverse languages,
literature, and grammar, emphasizing the strength they bring to the nation.
