Prime Minister Narendra Modi
commemorated the birth anniversary of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray on
Tuesday, acknowledging him as a towering figure whose influence on Maharashtra’s
political and cultural realm remains unmatched. Born on this day in 1926,
Thackeray, a prominent advocate of hardline Hindutva politics, commanded a
significant following until his passing on November 17, 2012.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed, “Remembering
Balasaheb Thackeray Ji on his birth anniversary. He was a towering figure whose
impact on Maharashtra’s political and cultural landscape remains unparalleled.”
PM Modi highlighted Thackeray’s enduring
legacy, stating, “In the hearts of countless people, he lives on due to his
leadership, unyielding dedication to his ideals, and commitment to speaking up
for the poor and downtrodden.”
Notably, the Shiv Sena has experienced a
factional split, with one faction, supported by a majority of lawmakers,
aligning with the BJP, while another faction led by Thackeray’s son, Uddhav
Thackeray, has formed an alliance with the Opposition in the State.
