Delhi and the National Capital Region felt
strong tremors late last evening after earthquake of 7.2 magnitude rattled the
southern part of China’s Xinjiang.
The National Center of Seismology, in a
post on X, said the quake took place at a depth of 80 kilometres.
Due to the geographical location and
epicentre at 241 kilometres northeast of Kabul, Bharat’s Delhi and NCR and
neighbouring country Pakistan felt mild tremors after a 6.1 magnitude
earthquake struck Afghanistan on January 11.
Southwestern China’s remote and
mountainous part had to face a massive quake in which 47 people got buried and 200
plus people were “urgently evacuated” from the affected region, reported State
broadcaster CCTV.
Citing local authorities, state news
agency Xinhua reported about the landslide at 5:51 am (2151 GMT Sunday) in Yunnan
province’s Zhenxiong County.
In recent time, China has experienced a
string of natural disasters, some following extreme weather events such as
sudden and heavy downpours.
