In a renewed effort to unravel the
alleged multi-crore ration distribution scam, the Enforcement Directorate or ED
executed another raid at the residence of absconding Trinamool Congress-TMC
leader Shahjahan Sheikh in North 24 Parganas district.
This action, occurring 19 days after an
earlier ED team was assaulted by a mob during a similar operation, signifies
the agency’s persistent pursuit of justice.
Accompanied by a substantial contingent
of over 120 personnel from the central armed police force, ED officers
forcefully entered Sheikh’s residence in the Sandeshkhali area. The operation
commenced after breaking open the collapsible gate, with local police and two
witnesses present to oversee the proceedings.
The ED, resolute in its investigative
efforts, expressed the intention to conduct a thorough search of Sheikh’s house
and engage with the residents during the operation. Upon entry, the officers
secured the premises by locking the gates from inside before commencing the
search.
This development follows an earlier
incident when an ED team faced physical assault from a mob while attempting to
enter the TMC leader’s residence on January 5. The altercation resulted in
injuries to three officers.
Subsequently, a complaint was filed
against the ED officers by the district police and Sheikh’s family members.
Despite the ongoing investigations,
Shahjahan Sheikh remains elusive and is currently absconding.
