The FIR, filed under multiple sections of
the PDPP Act, stems from the clash that occurred when Assam Police, on Chief
Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s directive, prevented the yatra’s entry into
Guwahati. The move resulted in protests from Congress workers, leading to a
confrontation with law enforcement.
Expressing concerns on social media, CM
Himanta accused the Congress leaders of wanton violence, provocation, and
assault on police personnel. He criticized Rahul Gandhi for allegedly violating
guidelines and provoking the crowd, causing a significant traffic jam in
Guwahati.
The CM directed Assam DGP GP Singh to
initiate a criminal case against Gandhi, citing social media footage as
evidence.
Tensions escalated in Guwahati as
Congress supporters clashed with police during the yatra’s attempted re-entry
into Assam.
The denial of permission for the yatra
to use main routes inside Guwahati prompted heightened security measures at
Khanapara, the city’s entry point, leading to altercations between Congress
supporters and law enforcement.
Visuals from the scene captured the
confrontations, with Rahul Gandhi observing from a distance as Assam Police
implemented stringent security measures.
