In the aftermath of the recent clashes
in Mumbai’s Mira Road, the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Vihar Police issued a warning
to social media group administrators on Wednesday. Authorities instructed
admins not to share or forward jokes, videos, or content related to the clashes
that occurred on the eve of the Ram Temple pran pratishtha. The police
emphasized that action would be taken against group admins if they violate this
directive.
The clashes, which occurred on Sunday
night, involved attacks on cars carrying flags of Lord Ram, leading to viral
videos of the incident. Riot police were deployed in the area hours before the
consecration of the Ram Temple. Thirteen people were arrested in connection
with the case, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured
strict action against those attempting to disrupt law and order.
The police, in a note, highlighted
ongoing investigations into the matter and cautioned against sharing content
that may incite religious sentiments or disrupt social peace. The statement
urged responsible use of social media to prevent the spread of misinformation
and misunderstandings in society.
Additionally, in response to the unrest,
the municipal corporation carried out the demolition of illegal structures and
encroachments in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road, following instructions from
the Maharashtra Government.
Several other incidents of outraging
religious sentiments were reported on the day of the pran-prathistha, including
an alleged disrespect of the flag of Lord Ram at the Pimpleshwar temple, a
provocative status message leading to an arrest in Govandi, the removal of a
flag with Lord Ram’s photo in Bhoiwada, and reported threats to participants of
a bike rally in Islampura, VP Road area.
