West Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu
Adhikari has raised questions about Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent
remarks where she mentioned a “war against Kafirs.” Adhikari, in a post on X,
shared a clip of Banerjee’s speech at a public meeting and sought clarification
on whom she was referring to as “Kafirs.”
In the shared clip, Mamata Banerjee
stated, “A war has begun. This war will continue. We will fight, we are not
scared of anyone. Kafirs and Kapurush are scared of fighting and they die.
Those who fight remain alive.”
Adhikari, in response, highlighted that “Kafir”
is an Arabic term referring to ‘infidels’ or ‘disbelievers’,someone who does
not believe in Allah. He questioned Mamata Banerjee on whom she was identifying
as Kafirs and Kapurush (cowards). Adhikari expressed concern about the mention
of waging war against Kafirs, equating it with the concept of Jihad.
The remarks in question were made by
Mamata Banerjee during an all-faith rally (Sanhati rally) in Kolkata on the day
of the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya. The Trinamool Congress (TMC)
claimed the Sanhati rally aimed to showcase solidarity for all religions,
emphasizing unity across diverse beliefs.
