Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa
Sarma declared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will face arrest after the upcoming
Lok Sabha elections. The Assam police, acting suo motu, filed the FIR against
Gandhi and other leaders and the transferred the case to CID for alleged
violence incitement during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The FIR includes charges
under multiple Sections of the IPC related to criminal conspiracy, unlawful
assembly, and assault.
Rahul Gandhi asserted that despite
multiple cases, the Assam Government can’t intimidate him.
In response to Gandhi’s defiance, CM
Himanta took to social media, ridiculing him as a Darpok or coward for
orchestrating violence and then discreetly leaving the scene in a small car.
Disclosing that a Special Investigation
Team or SIT would investigate the matter, the CM mentioned, “We will arrest him
after the Lok Sabha election. If we arrest him before, it will become
politicised… and we have evidence. A big incident could have happened in
Guwahati after he instigated to break barricades. We don’t want to do politics
before the Lok Sabha election because we are going to win this election.”
Dr Himanta pointed out Rahul Gandhi does
not love Assam but created a fuss to enter the birthplace of Vaishnav saint
Srimanta Sankardeva to “capture media attention”.
Asking few questions to the Congress
party on creating issue surrounding Batadrava Than, the CM further remarked, “But
Rahul Gandhi crossed Bhupen Hazarika Samaadhi Khetra in Guwahati and he didn’t
stop there. Rahul Gandhi crossed the Hajo Hayagriv Madhav Mandir and the holy Poa
Mecca (a place of pilgrimage for Muslims), where he addressed a press
conference on Tuesday. But he didn’t stop there. Rahul Gandhi crossed Barpeta
Satra and he didn’t stop for a minute there; even he didn’t stop at Kamakhya
temple. The entire incident was only for media attraction and to destabilise
Assam. Today we failed it. Now he wants to do Nyay Yatra in Dhubri; do it; I
have no objection.”
Criticising Rahul Gandhi, Dr Himanta continued,
if Rahul Gandhi respected Mahapurusha
Srimanta Sankaradeva, he could have gone to Barpeta Satra, Patbaushi Satra,
because Srimanta Sankaradeva established Barpeta Satra and stayed at Patbaushi.
He had halted for the night at Barpeta and could have visited the Sattra
(Vaisnavite monastery) there where Sankardeva had stayed, the CM added.
“The Congress did not visit any of these
places but wanted to engage in cheap politics. They should, however, remember
that such tactics will take them nowhere in the long run,” he added.
CM Himanta highlighted the Yatra’s
division into Hindu and Muslim majority areas and expressed satisfaction that
women in Muslim-majority regions did not participate in the violence.
The CM also urged the Election
Commission of India to schedule the Lok Sabha polls in Assam before April 14 so
that people can celebrate Bohag or Rongali Bihu. Expressing confidence in the
BJP’s victory under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, CM Himanta emphasized
that the election process aligning with the festive season would not pose a
problem for the State.
