Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024, the Indian women’s team showcased their
prowess by securing a thrilling 5-4 victory against Poland on Wednesday. Mumtaz
Khan (4’, 23’) and Deepika Soreng (6’, 29’) led the charge with impressive
braces, propelling India to a high-scoring triumph.
The match kicked off with a dynamic
display as Mumtaz swiftly scored a field goal, setting the tone for India.
Deepika Soreng added another goal just moment later, establishing a commanding
lead. However, Poland fought back with Julia Kucharska (8’) and Captain Marlena
Rybacha (10’) leveling the score at 2-2 before the first half concluded.
Undeterred, Mumtaz (14’) reclaimed the
lead for India, heading into halftime with a 3-2 advantage. The second half saw
both teams resisting each other’s advances until Mariana Kujur (23’) seized an
opportunity, extending Bharat’s lead to 4-2 with a stellar finish.
The tension escalated as Paula Slawinska
(27’) narrowed the gap for Poland, but Deepika Soreng (29’) responded swiftly
to maintain Bharat’s two-goal lead. In a nail-biting finale, Monika Polewczak
(29’) scored for Poland, bringing the score to 5-4 with just a minute left. The
Indian Women’s Team resiliently held on to secure their victory in a highly
competitive match.
