Marking Bharat’s 75th Republic Day,
Google commemorated the occasion with a special doodle, paying tribute to the
iconic parades over the decades. Created by guest artist Vrinda Zaveri, the
doodle showcased the evolution of the Republic Day parade on various screens,
including a black-and-white television set, a colour TV, and a mobile phone.
Last year’s Google Doodle for Bharat’s 74th
Republic Day featured an intricately hand-cut paper artwork by Gujarat-based
artist Parth Kothekar. The artwork depicted several elements of the Republic
Day parade, including the Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, the Central Reserve
Police Force (CRPF) marching contingent, and motorcycle riders.
On January 26, 1950, Bharat declared
itself a sovereign, democratic, and republic state with the adoption of its
Constitution. Following independence from the British Empire in 1947, Bharat dedicated
two years to crafting its Constitution, making it the longest Constitution in
the world. This pivotal document laid the foundation for democracy, enabling
Indian citizens to elect their representatives.
Republic Day celebrations across the
country feature parades, with the largest one occurring at Kartavya Path in New
Delhi. The event includes ceremonial activities such as wreath-laying to honour
fallen soldiers, marches by regiments of the armed forces, and tableaus
representing cultural and historical heritage.
The festivities culminate with the
Beating Retreat ceremony on January 29, where the Indian flag is flown, and the
National Anthem plays, bringing a vibrant end to the celebratory spirit of
Republic Day.
