Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria
emphasized the significant strides towards peace and development in the State
during his Republic Day address in Guwahati. Kataria underscored the pivotal
role of two major peace accords signed last year, heralding a new era of
progress for Assam.
Addressing the audience after hoisting
the national flag, Kataria lauded the resolution of boundary disputes with
neighbouring States, citing it as another crucial achievement. He emphasized
the intrinsic link between peace and development, noting the tangible progress
witnessed with the establishment of peace.
Highlighting the landmark peace accords
with ULFA and the Dimasa community, Kataria reiterated the government’s
commitment to addressing community aspirations and fostering harmony. Resolving
border disputes featured prominently in the government’s agenda, with
agreements signed with Arunachal Pradesh and ongoing discussions with Mizoram.
Commending the Assam Police for
maintaining law and order, Kataria credited their efforts in curbing
fundamentalist groups and cracking down on illegal activities. He highlighted
the successful operations against organizations like the Popular Front of India
and the Students’ Front of India.
The governor also outlined the
government’s initiatives against social evils like child marriages, aiming for
their eradication by 2026, and its zero-tolerance stance against corruption,
leading to action against corrupt officials.
Kataria further elaborated on various
government schemes spanning healthcare, education, employment, citizen
services, sports, and environment, emphasizing the commitment to equitable
development and sustained peace. He urged continued cooperation from the people
towards these endeavours.
