Renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra for his gripping biopic drama ’12th Fail’ secured the prestigious Best Director accolade at the 69th Filmfare Awards.
This year’s prestigious award ceremony unfolded in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where Chopra’s outstanding directorial skills took centre stage. ’12th Fail’ delves into the lives of UPSC aspirants and narrates their stories on a real-life experience. The film captures the struggles of millions of students navigating life with the challenges of the UPSC entrance exam.
Chopra emerged victorious while surpassing contenders such as Amit Rai (OMG 2), Atlee (Jawan), Karan Johar (Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani), Sandeep Reddy Vanga (Animal), and Siddharth Anand (Pathaan).
Vikrant Massey, who played a crucial role in the film, received varying acclaim for his performance. At the award ceremony, ’12th Fail’ secured the Best Director award and additionally clinched the coveted Best Actor (Critics) and Best Film honours.
Massey in conversation with ANI regarding his experience of working on the film, said, “The movie is a typical Vidhu Vinod Chopra movie, with its basis on hard reality making it a very hard-hitting film. The role was very challenging and I had to lose considerable weight as well as darken my skin.”
’12th Fail’ released in theatres on October 27 and has bagged praises from industry peers and celebrities such as Kamal Haasan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Vicky Kaushal, Rishabh Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar and Anil Kapoor.
The success of ’12th Fail’ at the 69th Filmfare Awards is both a recognition of Chopra’s directorial brilliance as well as a testament to the film’s gripping storytelling that resonated with audiences and industry luminaries alike.
