Recently, the ULFA-Independent released a video accusing the Assam Police of planting a spy within the camp of banned outfit in Myanmar. Regarding this, both Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and State Police have refuted the claims, former urging the outlawed organisation to refrain from punishing the innocent youth.
As per CM Himanta’s address to journalist, Manash Borgohain studied at an institute called ‘Jest’ and is not part of the Assam Police. In a thorough search about his background, it was found the youth is a diploma holder in engineering and has not taken any exams mandatory to become a Sub Inspector or SI. Hence, the CM mentioned, “This is factually incorrect and Paresh Baruah (ULFA-I chief) has a misunderstanding, I will request not to punish the boy.”
The Assam Police, through a written communiqué to journalists, has refuted the claims of the prohibited outfit stating they have neither sent any spy named Manash Borgohain to the ULFA-I camp nor recruited anyone by the same name in the Special Branch of the police in 2021.
In a YouTube video shared by the ULFA-I on January 28, they showed its leaders announcing the arrest of Manash Borgohain alias Mukut Axom for ‘breaching’ the Constitution of the banned organisation.
Mukut Axom too, after arrest, made confession backing the claims of the ULFA-I through a video message and stated he worked with the Special Branch of Assam Police since 2021 and his involvement in a mission to monitor the activities of the outfit.
