Tripura’s farmers-producers organisation – Bagma Agri Producers Company Limited or BAPCL – is spearheading the launch of the State’s maiden agriculture mobile app, aiming to revolutionize farmer communication and agricultural technology. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development or NABARD recently approved the app.
Revealing plans for the app’s imminent release in near future with preparations in full swing, BAPCL founder Sudip Majumder outlined the app’s multifaceted features, designed to provide farmers with essential information, including weather updates and market linkages.
Collaborating with ICAR for precise weather reports, the app will offer tailored recommendations on fertiliser and pesticide usage based on real-time weather data, enhancing farming efficiency. Additionally, it will furnish farmers with insights into optimal harvest and sowing times.
Addressing the critical issue of market access, Majumder pointed out the app’s role in bridging the gap between buyers and sellers. Through daily updates on market rates across Tripura’s eight district headquarters, farmers can make informed decisions, bypassing middlemen exploitation and securing better prices for their produce.
With a planned investment of Rs 10 lakh for technical development, BAPCL aims to ensure the app’s accessibility even in remote areas, regular awareness campaigns to maximize farmer engagement and app utilization.
Tripura University’s agricultural economics scholar Kiran Bhowmik appreciated the initiative as a groundbreaking advancement in the State’s agricultural landscape.
Describing the app as a “revolution”, Bhowmik accentuated its potential to empower farmers with pivotal information on agricultural conditions, market dynamics, and government schemes, marking a significant milestone in Tripura’s agricultural history.
