The Himanta Biswa Sarma Government, in an effort to revitalise the tourism sector and foster further development, is gearing up to introduce the Assam Tourism (Development and Registration) Bill, 2024, in the upcoming Vidhan Sabha budget session, mentioned Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah.
Jayanta Malla Baruah mentioned, “We could not regulate tourism in the State because we did not have an act. In the upcoming Vidhan Sabha budget session, this act will be implemented.”
The new legislative endeavour aims to create robust infrastructure and the promotion of responsible, sustainable tourism practices. The bill, at its core, aims to preserve Assam’s rich cultural and natural heritage while elevating the tourist experience through enhanced amenities, attractions and services. Moreover, it attempts to mitigate adverse effects on the environment, local culture, and communities, ensuring the sector’s longevity and resilience.
Complementing this legislative initiative are numerous other efforts undertaken by the Assam Government to strengthen tourism within the State. With its diverse array of attractions ranging from vibrant festivals to trek in serene tea gardens and thrilling wildlife safaris in renowned national parks like Kaziranga and Manas, Assam is set to emerge as a premier tourist spot.
The approval of the Assam Tourism Bill 2024 by the State Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, marks a significant milestone in the journey towards cultural preservation and societal progress.
