Assam Pradesh Congress Committee-APCC president Bhupen Borah, accused of deflecting the route and causing chaos during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in the State, was quizzed for almost 3 hours at the Jorhat police station. Borah, who has decided not to apply for anticipatory bail in case he is arrested, has been summoned again on February 12.
The probe session, joined by CLP leader Debabarata Saikia, Titabor MLA Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah, lawyers and party workers, began from 11 am with four officers questioning them.
After the police showed a video of the event, Borah put the onus of the untoward situation on the officials, who were present “in civil dress” in Jorhat at 4 pm on January 18, stating no personnel guided the party workers and leaders about the route. The Assam Congress chief stated he met the DGP, took permission from the authorities and questioned about police inaction against “the person, who assaulted” him in Dispur and in Jamugurihat.
Bhupen Borah further targeted Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and reiterated the accusations put forth by Rahul Gandhi about the Assam CM.
Bhupen Borah was questioned after he was served the notice last week by the police under Section 41(A) of CrPC. The case has been registered under the charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, use of criminal force under the IPC and relevant charges under the PDPP Act.
It mentioned, “One KB Byju, along with unknown others, instigated and led the crowd to take the Gar Ali Road and damaged the barricades which were put for the management of traffic and also assaulted on-duty police personnel.”
