Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has hailed the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in bringing drastic transformation in the State and at the same time exuded confidence upon the PM’s efforts and support in putting Assam on the global map of development.
He highlighted, the current generation of the State are taken by surprise to witness Assam’s noteworthy shift in its identity and the astounding progress over the last decade as the Centre’s policies towards this Northeastern State surpassed their expectations. Previously, it was known for destructive activities and agitation by the anti-social elements and now the State is in focus for development and production.
The CM commended all transformative works including the building of nine bridges over Brahmaputra River, establishment of 23 medical colleges, elevation of Kaziranga corridor, a ring road in Guwahati and the presence of 17 cancer hospitals as the testament to the State’s great infrastructural leap.
Dr Himanta put focus on other pivotal infrastructural development programs like Asom Mala, Gauhati Medical College (transformed into the largest health institute in the entire Northeastern Bharat with investment of Rs 3,000 crore), Assam AIIMS, expansion of national highways and rail double tracks.
Accentuating the numerous welfare schemes of the Centre as well as the State Government, the CM mentioned about the greater impact of the Prime Minister Housing Scheme, which has provided shelter to 20 lakh impoverished families, and the Orunodoi initiative that benefitted 3 million families with the provision of free rice to an astonishing 285 million people.
