Expressing happiness to receive Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated they discussed the people-to-people relationships, development cooperation, multilateral collaboration and expanding bilateral partnership between Bharat and the Pacific Ocean island nation during the meeting in New Delhi on Monday.
Besides, the itinerary of the guest leader included “engaging discussion” with State Minister for External Affairs and Education Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh in development partnership in multiple areas of health, sustainable development and renewable energy about which the Indian leader expressed satisfaction “to witness increased momentum”.
Among other busy schedules of the Fiji Deputy PM included participation in a programme in New Delhi today ahead of his Goa visit on February 7 and Ayodhya visit on February 8, after which he will become the first foreign leader to visit the holy city after the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.
Prasad, also handling the Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics Ministry, will depart for Ahmedabad on February 9, Gandhinagar on February 10 and his country on February 11, ending his Bharat visit.
During his maiden Bharat visit in February last year, the Fijian leader underscored the immediate need for joint action on decarbonisation to genuinely fight global problems like climate change in the Ministerial Session on ‘Strategies for a Sustainable and Decarbonized Future’.
Prasad exhorted the developed nations to support affordable technology transfer to facilitate a smooth and economically feasible energy transition.
Biman Prasad was welcomed by External Affairs Ministry official Paramita Tripathi after the guest arrived in New Delhi late on Sunday.
