The Himanta Biswa Sarma Government introduced the Assam State School Education Board Bill in the Assembly to control the education system till higher secondary and the State boards for Classes 10 and 12 will be combined into single entity.
The new entity after combination of Board of Secondary Education Assam or SEBA and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or AHSEC will be known as Assam State School Education Board or ASSEB that will “develop, supervise and regulate the standards and quality in school education”, mentioned Education Minister Ranoj Pegu in the Statement of Object and Reasons.
The SEBA and the AHSEC, notably, hold the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations respectively.
The new board will be headed by government-nominated chairman and its each division will be run by vice chairman. A total of 21 members, with a three-year term, will appointed.
CM Dr Himanta had taken the merger decision while chairing a cabinet meeting last November, after question paper leakage incidents of Class 10 exam in General Science and Assamese subject took place in March.
Following this unscrupulous practice, examinations of General Science and all subjects of Modern Indian Languages, including Assamese, and English (International Language) forced the SEBA and the Assam Government to postpone dates.
