Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, showing its commitment to eradicate persistent menace of illegal poppy cultivation, chaired a meeting to discuss renewed plans at the State Secretariat. He reiterated the need for joint efforts and measures to combat the issue effectively.

Taking forward the State Government’s resolution, combined teams of Narcotics and Affairs of Border or NAB, Ukhrul District Police, Ukhrul Forest Division and Manipur Rifles conducted eradication drive of illicit poppy cultivation during which around 20 acres at the Mullam and Shongphel hill range had been razed under Litan Police Station.
Owing to the rough terrain and limited manpower of near about 60 people made the task daunting and thus teams took help of grass cutter, sprayer including roundup herbicides, sticks and other necessary equipments. The combined team destroyed many huts and other amenities as well.
