Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang made a significant announcement during the State Level Sonam Lochhar festival on February 14. He introduced the ambitious Regularisation Policy 2024, aimed at providing job security to multiple categories of workers in the State. The policy targets the regularisation of a substantial 20,000 job vacancies by February 25.
Addressing the gathering, CM Tamang highlighted the inclusivity of the policy, which extends its benefits to MR, Ad Hoc, one family one job, contractual, ICDS, ASHA workers, and those employed under centrally sponsored schemes.
He insisted the policy, declared in Rangpo on February 9, is not merely an announcement but a law, with a deadline for implementation set for December 31, 2023. Workers who complete their requisite service tenure by this date are eligible for regularisation.
The formulation of the policy involved extensive consultations and meetings, which will address the employment concerns of the State’s workforce. Notably, the policy marks a significant shift from an 8-year to a 4-year tenure requirement.
CM Tamang underlined the importance of communal harmony and traditional values while reiterating the government’s support for social and community organisations. He mentioned initiatives to construct community centres and aid communities like Gurung, Rai, Chetry, and Newar in their development efforts.
The announcement of the Regularisation Policy 2024 will ensure job security and foster inclusive growth across various sectors in Sikkim.
