Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced the State Government’s plans to renovating Sri Sri Madhupur Satra, a significant Vaishnavite educational institution located in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. With a dedicated plan budgeted at Rs 30 crore, the initiative aims to preserve and enhance the 16th-century Satra’s historical and cultural significance.
Highlighting the enduring influence of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhavdev on Assam’s cultural ethos, CM Himanta accentuated the importance of honouring their legacies. “We are prepared to go the extra mile to safeguard the teachings of our revered social reformers,” he stated.
The Madhupur Satra, established in the 16th century, holds invaluable historical documents and manuscripts. The proposed renovation plan encompasses the construction of essential facilities such as a guest house, bhog ghar or community kitchen, museum, and auditorium, aimed at enriching visitors’ experience.
In addition to the Satra renovation project, CM Himanta inaugurated Mission Basundhara 3.0, the government’s flagship program dedicated to streamlining land-related services across the State. This mission, succeeding Mission Basundhara 2.0, aims to modernise and simplify land-related procedures, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
Mission Basundhara 3.0 encompasses numerous services, including digitising land settlement for non-individual judicial entities, granting urban tenants ownership rights, resolving land disputes, and launching ‘Map as a Service’. A significant aspect of the mission is the ceremonial distribution of land ownership records, or ‘pattas’, scheduled from February 23 to 29, symbolising the mission’s successful implementation.
Furthermore, the School Education Department of Assam introduced bilingual textbooks in Science and Maths for Class VI and VII, available in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, and English. This initiative aims to facilitate better understanding and enhance English proficiency among students.
