Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal made a virtual appearance before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday, seeking exemption from physical presence due to the ongoing Budget Session and a confidence motion in the Delhi Assembly. Kejriwal was summoned by the court following a complaint filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate or ED for non-appearance before the agency.
Kejriwal’s counsel stated that he would appear physically on the next hearing date.
Speaking via videoconference, Kejriwal informed the court about his inability to appear physically due to the ongoing confidence motion discussion and Budget Session in the Assembly. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 16.
The court’s summons stemmed from Kejriwal’s failure to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a case related to the Delhi excise policy. The ED had issued multiple summonses to Kejriwal, with the sixth summons requiring his deposition on February 19.
Meanwhile, in the Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal tabled a motion of confidence. The motion, to be discussed on Saturday, follows the suspension of seven BJP legislators for allegedly disrupting proceedings during the Lt Governor’s address. Kejriwal claimed attempts by the BJP to lure AAP MLAs and expressed confidence in his government despite challenges.
The discussion on Kejriwal’s confidence motion is scheduled in the Delhi Assembly for Saturday.
