Renowned for her portrayal of Lalita ji in iconic Surf commercials and as the resilient IPS Officer Kalyani Singh in the groundbreaking TV series Udaan, Kavita Chaudhary breathed her last at 67 due to cardiac arrest at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar on February 15.
Suchitra Verma, a close friend and mentee, disclosed that Chaudhary had been battling cancer for several years. She reminisced about their last meeting, revealing Chaudhary’s struggles with chemotherapy, expressing sorrow over her sudden demise.
In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, Verma commemorated Chaudhary’s legacy, accentuating her multifaceted influence as a mentor, guide, and beacon of empowerment. She reflected on their bond, their first meeting at her Versova house, and hailed Chaudhary’s significant contributions to women’s empowerment through her work that inspired the youth aspiring to be in the Indian Police Services. Though, it’s a releif for her that the late actor “is now free from pain” still it breaks her “heart to realise she will never pick calls”.
Chaudhary’s nephew, Ajay Sayal, confirmed her passing, attributing it to cardiac arrest, while actor Anang Desai mourned the loss, recalling their shared experiences at the National School of Drama as they were in the same batch along with Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher and Govind Namdev.
With her elegant portrayal of Kalyani Singh in Udaan, which aired from 1989 to 1991, and her iconic presence as Lalita ji in commercials, Chaudhary captivated audiences and left an indelible mark on Indian television. Udaan, a trailblazing series on women’s empowerment, resonated deeply with viewers and inspired many, including politician-actor Smriti Irani, who lauded its impact on her life.
