The Assam Criminal Investigation Department-CID has summoned Rahul Gandhi, along with many other prominent Congress leaders, in connection with allegations of public property destruction during the Nyay Yatra.
Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh, Bhupen Borah, Gaurav Gogoi, Debabrata Saikia, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, and Ramen Kumar Sharma have been directed to appear at the CID police station in Guwahati on February 23, as per the summons issued by Guwahati CID Police Inspector Kaikhoseh Simte.
The notice, citing “reasonable grounds to question” the individuals regarding the ongoing investigation, warns of potential arrest under Section 41A(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) for non-compliance.
The summons follows an earlier statement by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, confirming the filing of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and others for purportedly damaging public property during the Nyay Yatra.
The clash erupted when police attempted to obstruct Rahul Gandhi’s entry into Guwahati, leading to protests from Congress members, who dismantled barricades and voiced their dissent. Subsequently, police resorted to force to thwart the advancement of the Congress workers, who had barricaded two key locations to impede the Yatra’s progression into the city.
