Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, currently undertaking a two-day State visit to Bharat, was warmly greeted with a ceremonial guard of honour at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Accompanied by his wife, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, Mitsitakis was welcomed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the formalities of the guard of honour, the Guest Prime Minister expressed the significance of the strategic partnership between Greece and Bharat, expressing his eagerness for bilateral discussions with PM Modi.
Addressing the media, Mitsitakis remarked, “It is a privilege to be in India on an official State visit, reciprocating the visit of the Prime Minister to Greece a few months ago. For Greece, the strategic partnership between our two countries is of particular importance, and we will have the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics, including political consultations, strategic partnership, and fostering economic ties between our two economies. So, it’s a real privilege to be here, and I’m truly looking forward to the discussions we will have with the Prime Minister.”
Earlier in the day, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, attending the Raisina Dialogue, met with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss strengthening cooperation between Bharat, Greece, and Europe.
Mitsotakis, who arrived in the national capital late on Tuesday, was welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi. Notably, he is slated to be the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the three-day Raisina Dialogue 2024, commencing today, where he is accompanied by senior officials and a high-powered business delegation.
In a post on social media, the External Affairs Ministry extended a warm welcome to PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, highlighting his significance as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the Raisina Dialogue 2024.
During his visit, PM Mitsotakis is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Indian Counterpart Modi, who will also host a lunch banquet in honour of the visiting dignitary.
This visit marks the first bilateral Head of State or Head of Government level exchange between Greece and Bharat in 15 years, with the last Prime Ministerial visit from Greece to Bharat occurring in 2008. PM Modi reciprocated the visit by travelling to Athens on August 25, 2023.
PM Mitsotakis is also scheduled to visit Mumbai before returning to Athens.
