Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the Congress Government for what he termed as its “failure” to fulfil the six assurances it had pledged to the people of Telangana. His remarks were made during a public gathering in Bhainsa on the same day the BJP launched its Vijay Sankalp Yatras in the State as part of its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Concurrently, the party initiated four out of the planned five bus yatras across different clusters, with the fifth scheduled to commence on February 25. These yatras are set to traverse all 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State.
Addressing the audience in Bhainsa, CM Himanta asserted BJP would independently contest the forthcoming LS elections, ruling out any potential alliances with other parties. “Despite claims by Congress and BRS prior to each election of a prospective BJP-BRS coalition, the BJP affirms its intent to compete independently. We will rely solely on our own capabilities in Telangana,” he declared.
The Assam CM reminded the Congress Government of its failure “to implement the guarantees and other promises it made to Telangana’s people ahead of the Assembly elections” like “providing 2 lakh jobs, dole of Rs 4,000 to unemployed and financial assistance of Rs 2,500 to women”. He further blamed Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi of making numerous false statements on the guarantees of the Congress and “they always lie for their own personal guarantees… to win elections in Himachal Pradesh and Karanataka… In Himachal Pradesh, its own MLAs are criticising the Congress Government for its failure to fulfil the poll promises”.
Targeting Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra for bearing no fruits for the Grand Old Party in three States, CM Himanta remarked, “If he extends his campaign to more States, the Congress is likely to face similar defeats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections… This time, the Congress is unlikely to secure even 30 seats.”
Highlighting the Congress party’s perceived politicisation of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir consecration, he remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled the long-standing aspirations of the Hindu community by overseeing the construction of the Ram Mandir, a dream cherished for 500 years.”
“Despite extending invitations to Congress leaders for the inauguration ceremony, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge, they declined to attend, dismissing it as a political affair,” he added.
Earlier, the BJP started Kumuram Bheem Yatra – one of five in Basara after performing a special puja at the Sri Gnana Saraswati temple in presence of Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao, Mudhole MLA P Rama Rao Patel and other leaders.
