In a remarkable day for Assam, Bharat’s apex body National Board for Wildlife or NBWL has approved five crucial projects, including Kaziranga National Park Corridor, Guwahati Ring Road Project, two Deepar Beel Railway Elevated Corridor and Assam-Bhutan Border Road Project.
Brief Points On These Projects
1. Kaziranga National Park Corridor: The four-lane elevated road, covering 34.28 km long and two tunnels, will run along the NH-715 at three locations. Use of prefabrication technology as a construction methodology will avoid unnecessary traffic congestion.
2. Guwahati Ring Road Project: It is a 91 km long road that will connect Khanapara to Narengi via Baihata Chariali, Dumunichowki and Kurua. It included a six-lane bridge over River Brahmaputra as well that connects Narengi in the south bank with Kurua in the north bank. The bridge will be 3 km long and will bypass traffic from West Bengal and Bihar, which currently enter Guwahati city.
3. Two Deepar Beel Railway Elevated Corridor: This project by the Northeast Frontier Railway or NFR aims to end elephant deaths on railway tracks coming from Rani hills to the Ramsar site area. This project is part of the doubling of the railways line connecting Kamakhya with New Bongaigaon.
4. Chapaguri-Amteka-Bhutan Border Road: This project under Asom Mala, covering length of 44.776 km and width of 12 metres, will massively boost infrastructure in Bodoland Territorial Region or BTR, an autonomous division in Assam. Under the project, the authorities will build two major and 74 minor junctions with 16 bus stops. Additionally, they will construct one major and six minor bridges. It will benefit 6 lakh people directly and 24 lakh individuals indirectly.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to inform about the update and expressed his deepest “personal gratitude” to Forest and Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.
