Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic milestone as he laid the foundation stone for a new complex of the Indian Space Research Organisation-ISRO at Thoothukudi district’s Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu. The groundbreaking ceremony for this state-of-the-art facility, valued at Rs 986 crore, signals a significant leap forward for Bharat’s space exploration efforts, with plans to accommodate up to 24 launches annually.
In addition to this monumental event, PM Modi inaugurated a series of development projects amounting to over Rs 17,300 crore, underscoring Tamil Nadu’s pivotal role in shaping the nation’s progress, particularly in Thoothukudi.
Highlighting the transformative power of connectivity, PM Modi flagged off Bharat’s maiden indigenous green hydrogen waterway vessel, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in Tamil Nadu through enhanced accessibility.
Echoing the spirit of unity and progress encapsulated in the mantra of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, PM Modi envisioned these initiatives in Thoothukudi as catalysts for nationwide development, transcending geographical boundaries.
In a veiled reference to past alliances of Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, PM Modi underscored the significance of initiatives led by a dedicated ‘sevak’, hinting at his administration’s unwavering commitment to driving inclusive growth.
Meanwhile, ISRO Chairman S Somanath provided insights into the ambitious launch complex project, revealing that land acquisition has been completed and construction is slated for completion within two years. This facility, tailored for SSLV type rocket launches, holds promise for private space ventures and is poised to position Kulasekarapattinam as a bustling spaceport.
Addressing attendees, including dignitaries such as Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and L Murugan, PM Modi heralded a new era of innovation and progress. Notably, representatives from the ruling DMK Government, Thoothukudi MP K Kanimozhi and Tamil Nadu Minister for Public Works EV Velu, also participated in the event, underscoring bipartisan support for transformative projects.
A day earlier, on the occasion of National Science Day, PM Modi commemorated the discovery of the ‘Raman effect’ by renowned scientist CV Raman and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation, essential for realising the vision of a technologically advanced Bharat.
