A total of 12 outstanding artists, including Meghranjani Medhi from Assam, are set to receive the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for the years 2022-23, recognising their remarkable contributions to the realm of performing arts.
In a tweet shared on his official handle, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees from Assam, acknowledging their unwavering dedication to their respective crafts.
Among the recipients for the year 2022 are Gobinda Saikia for Sattriya, Karuna Borah for Ankiya Bhaona, Gunakar Dev Goswami for Direction, Tarawati Bori for Folk or Traditional Music, and Lakshahira Das for his overall contribution to performing arts. Additionally, Bhaben Borbayan has been recognised for Sattriya for the year 2023.
Furthermore, Dimpy Baishya for Sattriya, Mukunda Nath for Mime, and Binita Devi for Puppetry will be honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar for 2022, while Mukunda Saikia for Sattriya and Meghranjani Medhi for Kathak will receive the same for 2023.
Dulal Roy has been chosen for the esteemed Sangeet Natak Akademi fellowship (Akademi Ratna), marking a pinnacle of recognition for his exceptional contributions to the field.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, commonly known as the Akademi Puraskar, stands as the highest national honour in Bharat for achievements in performing arts. Conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bharat’s premier National Academy of Music, Dance, and Drama, the award celebrates excellence and acknowledges individuals whose work reflects the highest professional standards.
Recipients of this prestigious award are bestowed with a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000, a Tamrapatra, and an Angavastram, acknowledging their individual accomplishments along with enduring commitment to enriching Bharat’s cultural landscape.
