In light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s impending visit to the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, officials have announced the temporary suspension of Jeep and Elephant Safaris in the park’s Kohora range. Scheduled from March 7 to 9 for Jeep Safaris and March 8 to 9 for Elephant Safaris (2024), these closures aim to ensure the smooth execution of security measures and logistical arrangements for the PM’s inaugural visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
PM Modi’s scheduled arrival on the evening of March 8 will mark his first-ever visit to Kaziranga, where he will be accommodated at the Police Guest House overnight. The following day, the PM is slated to explore the Kohora Range within the park, a significant event that has stirred excitement within the State Government and the Forest department.
Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, accompanied by Chief Secretary Paban Borthakur, Director General of Police GP Singh, Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, and other senior officials, recently conducted a site inspection in preparation for the visit. During the visit, Patowary confirmed that arrangements had been made for Jeep and Elephant Safaris to facilitate the PM’s exploration of the park.
A comprehensive meeting with the Kaziranga Forest department was convened to address security concerns and finalise logistical preparations. Patowary accentuated the significance of the PM’s visit, expressing optimism that it would bolster the global recognition and prestige of the World Heritage Site.
Following his visit to Kaziranga, PM Modi is scheduled to proceed to Arunachal Pradesh, marking an important milestone in the region’s political and environmental landscape.
