Under the Vikas Yatra scheme, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the much-awaited elevated South Bank Corridor of North Guwahati Bridge worth ₹326 crore to the public on March 4.
This transformative six-lane bridge-cum-road over River Brahmaputra will benefit commuters in many ways as it will boost connectivity between Bhootnath and Machkhowa and decongest the city by diverting traffic over the river.
The Assam CM shared on social media, “Opening the South Bank Corridor of the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge. Built at ₹326 crore this iconic project will decongest the city and comes with a noise barrier.”
Earlier, Dr Himanta ensured of timely completion of the bridge by Diwali this year as the work is running on schedule.
Apart from this, CM Himanta laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed hospital in Guwahati’s Azara at the cost of ₹102 crore.
This hospital, under the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation scheme, is set for completion by 2026, enhancing public health services in the State and hugely benefitting the people of Azara and nearby areas.
