Today, the National Investigation Agency-NIA initiated raids at multiple locations in connection with a case involving the radicalisation of prisoners by a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist, according to an official statement.
The anti-terror agency conducted search operations at 17 sites across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and five other States, targeting individuals linked to the suspects in the case.
Originally, the Bengaluru City Police filed the case after seizing arms and ammunition, including seven pistols, four hand grenades, one magazine, 45 live rounds, and four walkie-talkies last year.
Initially, five individuals were arrested, with subsequent interrogations leading to the apprehension of one more suspect, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to six.
The NIA took over the investigation in October last year, subsequently conducting additional raids.
T Naseer, the LeT operative and mastermind who radicalised these individuals within Bengaluru’s central jail, is a key accused in the case, along with Junaid Ahmed, who is presently evading authorities.
Naseer, serving a life sentence in Central Prison in Bengaluru since 2013, established contact with other accused, including Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Faisal Rabbani, Tanveer Ahmed, Mohammed Farooq, and Junaid Ahmed, during their incarceration in 2017.
The NIA stated last year that Naseer had indoctrinated and recruited these individuals for potential acts of violent terrorism.
