Abhijit Buragohain and H Bhumika Devi, Wushu athletes hailing from the National Centre of Excellence under the Sports Authority of India, showcased exceptional talent at the ongoing Moscow Stars Wushu Championship-2024, held in Moscow from February 28. Both athletes secured gold medals in their respective categories, marking a historic achievement for Bharat.
Buragohain emerged victorious in the Junior Category (U-60 kg) of the Sanda event, defeating his opponent from Dagestan. Similarly, H Bhumika Devi defeated her Russian opponent in the Junior Category (U-52 kg). Their remarkable performances not only brought glory to Bharat but also marked their debut triumphs on the international stage.
The achievements of Buragohain and Bhumika were celebrated by all employees of the National Centre of Excellence, with assistant director Satrajit Kachari leading the congratulatory messages. Wushu coach Umesh Kumar Yadav was praised for his role in nurturing the athletes’ talents.
Additionally, martial artist Laatwang Kamhua, hailing from New Kothin village in Tirap district, secured a gold in the 48-kg category of the championship. Kamhua’s stellar performance highlighted his inaugural success on the international stage and brought further accolades to Bharat.
Kamhua’s dedication and skill not only brought pride to his homeland but also accentuated the significant contributions of the State to the global martial arts community. His previous achievements, including a gold medal at the 64th National School Games 2018-19 Wushu Boys U17 event in Delhi, further display his prowess in sports.
