Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma didn’t hold back during a press conference on the eve of the 5th Test against England in Dharamsala, responding firmly to a comment made by England batter Ben Duckett regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal’s attacking style of play.
Addressing Duckett’s suggestion that the England team’s ‘Bazball’ style of play deserves credit for influencing Jaiswal’s performance, Rohit Sharma reminded everyone of the explosive batsman Rishabh Pant in the Indian team.
“There was a guy called Rishabh Pant in our team; probably Ben Duckett hasn’t seen him play,” Rohit remarked in response to Duckett’s comment.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been a standout performer for India in the series, amassing 655 runs in four matches with an impressive average of 94.57 and a strike rate of 78.63. Duckett’s statement implying that England’s style influenced Jaiswal’s approach didn’t sit well with Rohit Sharma and drew criticism from former England captain Nasser Hussain as well.
“He’s not learned from you. He’s learned from his upbringing, all the hard yards he had to put in growing up. If anything, lads, look at him and learn from him. I hope there’s a little bit of self-introspection going on,” Hussain had commented on Sky Sports, criticising Duckett’s perspective.
