The Mizoram Assembly marked a groundbreaking milestone in its history towards gender inclusivity in governance as Baryl Vanneihsangi assumed control of the session, scripting her name as the first woman to do so in the State on March 7.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, recognising this momentous occasion, expressed on social media, “Today marks a significant historical landmark for the Mizoram Assembly as MLA Baryl Vanneihsangi assumed control of the session, becoming the first woman to do so. This moment underscores a momentous stride towards gender inclusivity in governance.”
The rise of Vanneihsangi serves as an inspiration for future generations of women leaders in Mizoram and beyond. She was victorious in the Mizoram Assembly election from the Aizawl South-III constituency, becoming the youngest woman MLA in the State. She is a member of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).
Previously, Vanneihsangi has worked as a corporator in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), as per the affidavit in the Election Commission.
