Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Tribal Cultural Experience project in Chumoukedima district of Nagaland on Thursday.
Under the Tourism Ministry, the project focuses on offering tourists an authentic insight into Naga tribal culture at the Midway Retreat in Tsiepama village, nestled between Kohima and Dimapur. Visitors will have the opportunity to stay in traditional cottages, immerse themselves in Naga culture, savour Naga cuisine, and gain a deeper understanding of the Naga way of life.
The virtual inauguration, conducted from Srinagar, included the launch of 53 other projects across Bharat under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme. State Tourism Commissioner & Secretary I Kitto Zhimomi highlighted Nagaland’s potential in the tourism sector, highlighting the completion of projects in six districts under the first phase of the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
With Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiating projects in Niuland and Chumoukedima districts, Zhimomi expressed hope for further support from the Tourism Ministry to cover the remaining eight districts. He accentuated these initiatives would not only boost tourism but also create employment opportunities in the hospitality sector.
Nagaland Association of Tour Operators president Kejaroko Pieru stressed upon the importance of infrastructure development for rural destinations like Nagaland to harness the benefits of tourism fully. Pieru asserted tourism development should prioritise empowering local communities, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
Tsiepama Village Council chairman Seyievizo Visezuo pledged full cooperation to the Tourism Department, underlining the community’s commitment to the project’s success.
