Kwatha, the only Meitei village in the Kuki dominated place Tengnoupal Tensil in the Indo-Myanmar Border was set ablaze by unknown miscreants late on Sunday. It is noteworthy to mention there was a bid to attack this village and burn down house in May last year. Fortunately, the Assam Rifles personnel prevented the untoward incident.
Meitei villagers mentioned they don’t know yet about the people responsible for this crime but they suspected heavily armed “miscreants” belonging to the Kuki community behind this incident.
A local stated, “Kwatha Khunou is one of the most ancient and beautiful villages of Meitei community bordering Myanmar. But now we may have lost it just like we have lost many other villages in Churachandpur, Sugnu, Moreh and Kangpokpi among others.”
The incident of Kwatha Khunou in the hill area proves that Meitei people have lived in the hilly terrain since many centuries and have been eliminated by such incidents. They continue to prefer living there other than the valley area, said the local.
